Most Trusted Thermometer yet
Wednesday, 20 September 2017  |

I have had a GerathermŽ Classic XL- Medical Thermometer for a number of years after trying many other Thermometers from other Companies which were not reliable. Ear thermometers seemed to givea bewildering set of results as did other types as well but the Classic XL which safely replaced the old style Mercury thermometer readings were consistent. I have just ordered another so we have one always packed for our holidays and one for the home and i see that they have now addressed the problem of reading the scale by supplying a case that magnifies the scale when the Thermometer is inserted into it (Brilliant). Some people gave bad reviews on the themometer because of not being able to shake the fluid back down into the its holding resovoir but if you read the intructions you will find that the liquid only need to be shaken down so it lies between the 35mark and the 36 degree mark and NOT all the way down to the bottom . Shaking the fluid down does need some wrist flicks which to some people may be a problem but for me it works and causes no strain on the wrist. I Have a disabled wife who sometimes can have some very high temperatures up to 39 sometimes so i need a reliable Thermometer so i know when to call the Doctor in and when not to. I highly recommend this type of thermometer.

Would NOT recommend!

Bought two of these and 3 people tried them - didn't work. Someone told me to put it in a sock and shake/spin vigorously. Did this and it worked! But when you have to do this every time, it's unacceptable. It doesn't always work when you do this. I have given up on them and will try a different type! Would not recommend.

Classic XL- Medical Thermometer

An inexpensive "old school" style of analogue thermometer, it seems very accurate. A digital thermometer would cost far more for similar accuracy.

It was almost impossible to get the fluid to retract to the resovoir after taking a temperature. 15, 20, 30 etc hard shakes made no difference, just ran out of strength.
Sent an email asking for return policy but recieved no response. As no use as a thermometer have disposed of it.

Hello,
Sorry never got an email about this issue, never got a phone call either. If the spirit does not return it's possibe the thermometer was damaged in the post and could be a hairline crack in the glass which will stop its function. We will re-fund your order. Being a medical item we are not allowed to have this item returned.

...because I can't figure out how to make this thermometer work! I thought I figured out how to 'shake it down', but after holding it in my mouth for five minutes the next morning the liquid hadn't moved a millimeter. I wanted to get something without batteries but now I'm wondering if the hassle of replacing the batteries may have been worth the hassle of trying to figure out how to use an analog thermometer. I'm sure it's me, not the thermometer. Oh, well, I'll keep trying.

These are now binned. No matter what I did or where I put these thermometers they didn't budge. I bought two and one of them stayed permanently at 39 degrees and the other at 38.2 degrees centigrade since I opened the packet. I would have been bad enough for one to be faulty but both means I will not be contemplating buying this make again. It is a shame they are being sold by Thermometers Direct as the Digi Temp thermometers from here worked great. Unfortunately I am needing something which is small, accurate and does not need to be switched on and off as I wanted them to be placed inside an incubator. Extremely disappointed.

hi,
Sorry to hear of your issues, but these re medical thermometers and not incubator thermometers. These medical thermomters need to be shaken to re-set the thermometer before the next reading, As far as iam aware no medical thermometer is designed for constant monitoring
